UK Status
Resident. Widespread and locally common in most of
England and Wales.
Montgomeryshire Status
First recorded in the east of the county at Middletown in 2012. This
was only the third record for north Wales.

M & F 5-6mm.
Confusion species
Many species of Stigmella are very similar. One of the best ways of
separating them is to examine the type of leaf-mine in the foodplant.

Apple, both wild and cultivated.
Lifestage data
Leaf miner. Eggs laid on underside of leaf close to a rib. Larva forms
a small gallery leading to a orange-brown blotch. Pupates in a orange
to reddish-brown cocoon. |
